Our First Blog!

What a year it has been. Lockdown has been challenging both personally and professionally. We had hoped to get our first blog post out much sooner, but we have actually been quite busy over the last few months.

As a film company, we were able to continue working throughout the lockdown. However, many of our clients were not, which was less than ideal.

So, what have we been up to?

At the start of the outbreak, we were just about to move and were working hard on plans to upgrade our office, website, and equipment. We still moved to our new home and set up our office from there, which was perfect. As a family business now running from home, we had no issues going to work during lockdown.

Unfortunately, the filming side of our business was very quiet, but we took the opportunity to upgrade our equipment and spent many hours developing our website. Although it was a quiet period, we received a good number of requests for website work, as many clients had more time to dedicate to it.

Everything Must GO!

People who had previously been in contact were not proceeding with any plans for filming, so we took the opportunity to sell off all of our old equipment in preparation for our next major upgrade.

The process of organising everything went horribly, as suppliers were incredibly slow, and we had to wait a while for a replacement when one workstation casing turned up smashed. Despite the setbacks, we got on with it and started putting together our new office.

To ensure we deliver the best, we have always custom-built our own PCs with our own hand-picked specs, and our new IT equipment is the best of the best.

However, PCs did not go far enough. We built ultra-premium workstations with AMD Ryzen Threadrippers. Video rendering and editing is one of the biggest strains on equipment, especially when dealing with high-end broadcast equipment. We opted for 24 and 32-core processors designed for the world's fastest ultra-premium desktop systems.

Entering the World of Broadcast 4K

With our combination of hand-picked tech, not only can we produce high-end UHD 4K film for the most demanding projects, but we can produce content quicker than ever. Less time spent editing and rendering content for our clients means reduced costs that we can pass on to you.

All this new tech was far too superior for our current rigs, so why the expense? The answer is that we were moving to Canon.

This was not just for DSLRs, but for professional 4K UHD camcorders. Our new camcorders boast the latest HEVC codec, enabling high-quality internal UHD HDR recording or output for the broadcast and production industry. With Canon C-Log, 10-bit recording, and full 4K UHD, these cameras are beasts.

Camcorders? Really?

You might be wondering, "Camcorders? Really? Are they still a thing?" The answer is yes, they are still here, but they're not like your dad's video camera from the 90s, these are high-end cameras producing cinema quality results.

While many people prefer DSLRs for the shallow depth of field and 'film look', professional camcorders now produce the same results. We haven't abandoned DSLRs, but we did swap them out for Canon.

Personally, I have always loved Nikon, but since we got our hands on the new 1DX Mk3, which boasts some serious specs, with up to 5.5k RAW and shockingly good autofocus, it is unlikely I will ever turn back.

The last 12 months have been tough, but we have pushed forward and are ready to get back out there more than ever. With the UK government's plan to lift the lockdown from 29 March 2021, we are looking forward to seeing an increase in trade.
